Skin growth, repair and rejuvenation are stimulated by IPL treatment with the Cryo Broadlight Intense Pulsed Light System. The Cryo Broadlight System is different to most other IPL machines: it has a range of specialised light filters that allow your nurse practitioner to choose the exact wavelength of light for your skin type and treatment needs, quickly and accurately.

The Cryo Broadlight is a great system for treating a wide range of problems and skin types. At Brisbane Cosmetic Clinic, we use the Broadlight IPL Treatment System for all these treatments:

  • ACNE reduction
  • Pigmented Lesions: sunspots, brown pigmentation from sun damage & freckles
  • Vascular Lesions: red, purple & blue veins and blood vessels
  • Sun damaged skin, and fine wrinkling of the skin
  • Rosacea
  • Mild acne scars and acne recurrences
  • Flushing
  • Broken capillaries
  • Dark pigmented areas under the eyes
  • Skin photo rejuvenation
  • Promotion of collagen production & remodelling
  • Scar resurfacing after labiaplasty surgery for an optimal outcome

IPL Treatments are especially effective for improving the appearance of the face, neck, chest, and hands.

This exciting treatment is very ‘patient friendly’:

  • There is no downtime (for pigmentation & skin rejuvenation). You can resume normal activities immediately.
  • It’s virtually painless, and it’s super fast
  • It treats all skin types and all hair colours

For optimal results a series of 3 – 5 IPL treatments are recommended. In consultation with your doctor, you can have yearly follow-up treatments to maintain your results.

Cryo Broadlight IPL Treatment in Detail

What is Photo Rejuvenation of the skin?

Photo Rejuvenation of the skin

Photo Rejuvenation is a cosmetic treatment designed to produce younger and healthier looking skin. Most people, as they age, find their complexions impacted by sun damage, time, and lifestyle choices.  Photo Rejuvenation is a series of Intense Pulse of Light treatments that improve many of the unwanted effects of ageing.

Medical scientists discovered a long time ago that light therapy has the power to stimulate skin cells on a molecular level, assisting the production of collagen and growth factors which help the skin cells grow and rejuvenate. The Cryo Broadlight treats age spots and pigmentation from sun damage, as well as small veins and capillaries, which make the skin appear red, pink or purple. Broken blood vessels in the skin can leave the skin with a sallow appearance. Cryo Broadlight IPL treatment helps clear the unwanted pigments in the skin, thereby improving its colour and texture.

The Cryo Broadlight IPL System uses filtered non-coherent light to selectively destroy melanin-laden cells, blood-filled capillaries and hair roots in a process called Selective Photothermolysis. The Cryo Broadlight Intense Pulse of Light technology can also be used in selective killing of problem skin cells, such as any that are diseased (various pre-cancerous lesions), aged and sun damaged (actinic keratosis), or infected (propionibacterium acnes complicating acne).

Patient Journey

Patient Journey

Before any IPL treatment, you will meet with your Doctor or Nurse Practioner for a consultation to discuss whether this is the right procedure for you. Your Doctor/Nurse will take a medical history and will ask specific questions. It is important to tell us if you are pregnant, if you are trying to become pregnant, if you are breastfeeding, and also if you are taking any medications. Your Doctor/Nurse Practitioner will also discuss with you your motivations and expectations. We will explain what laser IPL treatment can and can’t do for you, and what type of results you can expect.

Your photograph will be taken from different angles. These photographs are important for before and after assessments and long-term reviews.

The IPL Treatment - What to Expect

The IPL treatment

First, the area to be treated will be cleansed. The IPL treatment is applied in a series of gentle but intense pulses of light over the treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by tiny capillaries or blood vessels visible through the skin, or it is absorbed by any pigmentation, sunspot or freckle or hair follicle present. The intense pulse of light is then transformed into heat energy, which causes damage to the blood vessel or pigmented area. Then, through its natural cleansing process, the body clears the debris away. The IPL treatment may vary from 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated. Most treatments are painless, but specific treatments may feel a little like a rubber band snap to the skin. Topical or skin anaesthetic may be applied if required. The cooling head on the Cryo Broadlight makes treatments with this technology almost completely painless.

What to expect from your IPL treatments

You will notice little or no difference from the initial treatments.

By the third IPL treatment, most patients will experience a gradual decrease in redness of the skin, making their skin colour and texture appear clear and healthy.

You will see fewer broken capillaries.

The texture and tone of your skin will improve.

You will see less flushing of your skin and it will have a ‘creamier’ colour, with a reduction in irregular pigmentation.

If you have large pores, you will see a reduction in pore size
