Fat harvesting and transfer

Pre-Operation

  • Prior to surgery, a complete medical history is taken and a thorough examination is conducted in order to evaluate your general health. Dr Konrat will describe the procedure and answer any questions you may have.
  • You should avoid Asprin, Nsaid, Brufen, Vitamin E Capsules and any Anti-Inflammatory medication for two weeks before and after your procedure.
  • Avoid alcohol for two weeks before and after your procedure.
  • You must stop smoking two weeks before and a month after your procedure. Smoking decreases the blood flow to the skin and can delay healing.
  • You will need to make arrangements for someone to accompany you home and care for you as the sedation during the procedure may make you drowsy for up to 24 hours.
  • You must notify Dr Konrat if you have any medical problems or allergies to any tablets, drugs, dressings or any medication.
  • Photographs and measurements are taken before and after surgery in order to evaluate the final results.

The Operation

  • Fat Harvesting and Transfer is performed as day surgery in the minor operations room at Brisbane Cosmetic Clinic under sedation with long-acting local anesthetic, (similar to "twilight" anesthetic).
  • Using a microcannula, fat is suctioned from the tummy area, hips or buttocks and carefully prepared, then implanted into the desired areas.
  • Up to three separate injection sessions may be required at intervals of approximately 6 - 8 weeks. At the first treatment session, enough fat is harvested, then held in frozen storage for any future treatments that may be required. Not all the fat injected at each treatment session finds its own blood supply and survives. A percentage of the fat from the first and second treatments is absorbed.

Post-Operation

  • You may experience some oozing from the area where the fat has been removed.
  • Leaving the clinic: ?You will not be able to drive, and must arrange for transport to your home or accommodation. You should not take public transport.
  • Care of the treated area:?
    • Stay completely out of the sun until the redness and bruising subsides (usually 48 - 72 hours).
    • Avoid exposing scars to the sun for at least 12 months.
    • Always use a strong sun-block if sun exposure is unavoidable (SPF30+).
    • Keep steri-strips or surgical tapes on and replace them if they become loose or drop off.
    • Inspect daily for signs of infection.
    • Do not bath or swim while sutures or drains are in place, but you may shower.
    • You may wear makeup with sun block protection.

Final Result

  • Improved volume and contours in the areas treated with facial fat transfer.
  • Improved skin texture.
  • Firmer and smoother skin.
  • With regular follow-up treatments, as outlined in the Fat Transfer Program Plan which will be designed for you, you can easily maintain your new look.
  • Repeated treatments may be necessary to achieve the final desired result. Results are permanent, or until weight loss or the normal ageing process of volume loss occurs.
